| About | ||||
| MailGlance is a free program to monitor your mail on a Mac OS X Jaguar system. Essentially it's an unfaithful Cocoa implementation of Bell Lab's vismon or Rich Burridge's faces programs. MailGlance displays an image in a window for each message you receive. The images correspond to the sender of the message. The default MailGlance configuration uses Steve Kinzler's picons database of images representing people, companies, institutions, etc. Of course you can add your own images to represent your correspondents as you like.
MailGlance uses separate windows for each of multiple accounts or mailboxes. It supports .Mac, IMAP, POP3, spool files and other mailbox formats using the UW Imap Toolkit. It can also monitor your mail by asking the OS X Mail application what's in your mailbox. The windows can be adjusted to resize the images and the number of rows and columns of images. The dock icon indicates the number of messages in the mailboxes with a number linked to a mailbox by color. You can click on an image to pop up a window containing the mail for a quick look or mouse over the image to see a subset of the mail headers. The polling frequency can be set independently for each mailbox. Where visible, MailGlance understands OS X Mail's junk flags and imap's seen and deleted flags. To wit, mail images appear in windows or are counted in the dock image according to your preferences for including messages so marked. Images can also be tinted according to the presence of these flags. Images may be overlayed with other images to indicate who the mail is to. Handy for quickly identifying mail you recieve from lists. Although highly customizable, MailGlance is meant to work out of the box. The overriding design goal is not to screw up your system. MailGlance only looks at your mail, it doesn't mess with it. The current version of MailGlance is beta 0.6. Send your comments to ber at mailglance.com. |
